To anyone who is planning
to market or if your products are going to circulate in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and China; the very first piece of advice I would
like to suggest is that: if you really want your clients to better understand
you and remember you, you need localization **, thus translate all your brochures, documentations,
leaflets, letters, webpages and other relevant documents into the language(s) of target audiences in specific countries or locations.
** localization -
The process of adapting text and cultural content to specific target audiences in specific locations. The process of localization is much broader than just the linguistic process of translation. Cultural, content and technical issues must also be taken into account. The localization Industry Standards Association (LISA) defines localization as "the process of modifying products or services to account for differences in distinct markets". Personally, I can translate around 2000 words of input daily, from English / Malay into Chinese. My standard per source word rate for translation (including proofreading) is RM 0.12 (USD 0.03) and I always client an overall pricing and timeframe per project, after a detail analysis of all files.
